Traineo: new weight loss community

traineoThere’s a new web application in town! It picked up where the other weight loss tracking websites left off. Traineo is a new venture of HDO Group based in Massachusetts. designed to keep you motivated to achieve your fitness goals.

Designed by blubolt, Traineo has followed the, forgive me for saying this, Web 2.0 era of graphical user interface, identified by the apparent usage of large font scales, big icons with a distinctively simple yet elegantly outlined gradient designs with 6 o’clock reflections, and what is web 2.0 without saying “AJAX”! :?

Beyond the tables and colorful sliding graphs, this sort of mild-myspace + fitness tracker mashup lets you choose a maximum of four people that will serve as your motivators to whom you will announce your weight loss progress. Isn’t that great, shameless plug of your fatties coming off? I think it’s a good idea having people motivate you. It’s like a virtual personal trainer that you get excited logging your weight standing.

I signed-up to test the system, and I’m loving the whole feel to it. It’s fresh, the tools are nifty, it’s not too cluttered like the US version of Amazon. Surfing is fast, they use friendly URLs for non-technical users. They also give out essential articles for users to read, plus an active forum to boast with already 5283 users as I write this post.

What I didn’t like much was that you have to be forwarded to the USDA database to check food calories. It would be nicer if they incorporate the free service of FitDay to their site, where you could log specific foods to your program and specifically see nutrition facts, what micronutrients you are putting into your body.

I’d love to hear what you have to say on this promising site.

Man, that is a interesting concept. If only I wasn’t so lazy or I could actually use it.

Don’t forget about Gimme20.com, another website in this arena. However, it looks like they are still testing.

    From their website:

Gimme20.com is a health and fitness community that provides collabrative tools and support for achieving a healthy body and mind.

Gimme20.com is simple. You can either build a customized workout, or select one of the many workouts submitted by your peers and industry professionals. Then — Gimme20.com will track your fitness results for you. Heck — we will even send you workout reminders if you want.

I took a look at traineo and thought it was super impressive initially with good tools etc. and a cool interface.

But when I scratched the surface there really wasn’t anything that innovative to the site compared to what else is in the market place. I hope people use it thought because it can only help get them into better shape.
