Results are in and looks like the eye infection epidemic has been conquered since the US company Bausch & Lomb’s eye cleaning solution has been withheld from global shipment.

Last April, medical optics company Bausch & Lomb issued a worldwide recall of their contacts cleaning solution product ReNu after having linked to worldwide cases of fungal keratitis, a rare eye infection.

As of June 30, the researchers had identified 164 confirmed cases of patients infected with the fungal infection fusarium keratitis. Of those, 94 percent, or 154 patients wore soft contact lenses.

Infected patients came from 33 states and one U.S. territory and about 34 percent of them required a corneal transplant. [CNN]

To date, there have been reported cases dispersed globally, namely in Canada, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Looks like the company isn’t a stranger to litigations and lawsuits.

CEO caught lying

In April 2002, Ronald Zarella, the Chief Executive Office of the company was found to have lied about possessing an MBA from the Stern School of Business. It was found out that he attended the program part time but never in fact graduated. [Wiki]

If you or your loved one is at risk, please perform necessary actions immediately.

Not another Merck case, CDC! FDA! What is going on with the world? Indeed, it is very hard to do business when people’s lives are at stake. Wait, do we have to gamble lives with this crap to begin with? Amuses me every single day.
